A fish and chip shop had a massive queue stretching down the street after launching a special deal.

Ascott’s Fish & Chips in Cofton Hackett, south Birmingham, ran the £1 promotion for a portion of chips dubbing it "Chips and Eclipse" on August 12.

The offer, which ran from 6pm to 8pm, attracted huge attention online, with the queue reaching around 75 people at one point.

The long queues remained consistent for around four hours.

Owner Ben Ascott said: "Over the last month, we’ve really dug our heels in and gone for it."

"It’s been amazing," he added.

The event was not about making a profit, but about raising awareness of the shop and bringing the community together.

Mr Ascott said: "Ascott’s want to work with local councils for things to do in the park."

He hopes to engage residents from across Birmingham, especially as Cofton Park is a popular destination in good weather.

The shop has seen a surge in support since ramping up its social media presence in July, with recent posts receiving around 100,000 views.

One video reached 150,000 views. Mr Ascott appeared on BBC West Midlands with Ed James to promote the eclipse night event.

Ascott’s Fish & Chips rebranded in November 2025 and has since announced plans for further expansion.

The shop intends to open a seating area and revive its 'infamous' hog roast in 2027.

There are also plans for a new kitchen on the first floor to bring back favourites from the original menu.

Mr Ascott said the business is focused on uniting people of all ages and building a sense of community through its events and outreach.
